The short version

Restless Planet is an informational map of things happening in the world. It is not an emergency service. We do not own most of what it shows, and we do not control the social posts it lists. You can block the author of any social post you see, report the post to us, and we act on reports.

Not an emergency service

Restless Planet does not replace official warnings, evacuation orders, or emergency broadcasts. Hazard data reaches us minutes to hours after an event, and sometimes not at all. Notifications are retrospective by design: they tell you something already happened. Do not make a safety decision on what this app shows. Follow your local emergency authority.

Where the information comes from

Hazard data comes from public agencies including the United States Geological Survey, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NASA, and the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System. Social posts come from public Mastodon, Bluesky and Lemmy posts. We do not author any of it, we cannot guarantee it is accurate or current, and agencies revise and withdraw their own data.

Social content

Social posts are third-party content that Carat International does not create, control, endorse, or continuously monitor. A post appearing in Restless Planet is not a recommendation of it.

Every post can be blocked from inside the app, immediately, without asking us. Every one can also be reported. Reports reach a person, and we review them. We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive accounts: when we agree with a report, we hide that post, or block that account, for everyone using Restless Planet.

You may not use Restless Planet to harass anyone, to report things falsely at volume, or to attempt to have lawful content removed in bad faith. We may ignore reports from a device that does this.

What you may not do

Do not present Restless Planet's data as an official warning. Do not scrape or resell the data it displays; most of it belongs to the agencies named above and carries their own terms. Do not attempt to disrupt the service or the third-party services it reads from.

Age

Restless Planet is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 to use it. It shows public posts written by other people. We leave out posts the networks mark as sensitive or adult, but some posts may still not suit younger users.

Third party content

News headlines, social posts and agency records are produced by other people. We do not write them, check them, or endorse them. Opening one takes you to that provider, under their terms and their privacy policy. If a post or a headline is wrong, offensive or unlawful, the provider is responsible for it. You can report a social post by pressing and holding it. For a headline or anything else, write to support@caratinternational.net.

Reports, blocking and removal

You can block any author, and that block is yours alone and takes effect immediately on your device. You can also report a post to us. Reports are reviewed and acted on, and a post reported independently by several people is hidden from everyone while we look at it, unless it comes from one of the official agency or newsroom accounts the app follows.

We may remove content, or withdraw access to the app, where we believe it is unlawful, abusive, or breaks these terms. We do not review posts before they appear and are not obliged to monitor them. We leave out posts the networks mark as sensitive or adult, and we act on what is reported. To report content you believe infringes copyright, write to support@caratinternational.net with enough detail to identify the item.

No warranty

Restless Planet is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error free, or that the information it shows is accurate, complete or current.

Limit of our liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Carat International LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, property, injury or life, arising out of or connected with your use of Restless Planet. That includes any loss arising from reliance on what the app shows, and any decision made or not made during an emergency.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty five United States dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Purchases

Restless Planet is free for 7 days. After that, a one time payment of $5.99, or the local price shown in the App Store, unlocks it. It is not a subscription and never renews. Apple handles payment and refunds.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Carat International LLC against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your misuse of the app or your breach of these terms.

Apple

Restless Planet is distributed through the App Store. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim that the app fails to conform to a warranty is a matter for us, not Apple, and Apple's only obligation in that event is to refund the purchase price if any was paid.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nebraska, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The state courts of Nebraska and the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you consent to venue there. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in the place you live.

If part of this fails

If any provision is found unenforceable, it is severed and the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

Changes

We will update these terms when the app changes. The date at the top is the version in force. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
